Specifically, registered nurses and trained health aides provide services in the following areas:
- Prevention of health problems and promote health by assessing student health status, providing services for students with special health needs, emergency care ensuring access to health care and identifying and managing barriers to learning.
- Nurses work in collaboration with school staff to provide and support health education, health promotion programs for faculty and staff, identify student psycho social problems and provide input, intervention and referral, ensure a healthy school environment, contribute to and support school nutrition services as well as the physical education programs.
- The school RN also takes a leadership role in collaborating with community agencies to identify and provide programs to meet the physical and mental health needs of children and families.
